ROCKER BEATER LOOM #11:THE VIRGINIA LOOM IN NORTH CAROLINA

Currently in storage at the HighPoint Historical Society in High Point,NC

At Left: Wide view of front-left side of loom, with mid-loom uprights.

At Right: Detailed view of rocker. Note the three pegs in loom base. There are corresponding holes in the underside of the rocker to keep it in place on the base.

Lower Left: View of various loom parts: frame minus mid-loom uprights, warp beam, shedding system (including the original cotton heddles), and a portion of the cloth beam.

When this loom was first assembled and photographed for use in the thesis, the mid-loom uprights could not be found (as shown in the picture on the left). Sketches of what the uprights should look like were left with museum personnel, and the parts were later discovered in a completely different storage area. The photograph in the upper left-hand corner was taken with the uprights in place.

Museum records indicate that the oak loom in storage originally came from Virginia. This loom is the only oak loom in storage, so it is presumed to be the one from Virginia. No other history or information is available on this loom.
