| At Left: Wide view of front-left side of loom. The counter balanced shedding system consists of a single, shaped, roller bar, with two shafts and treadles. The cloth beam and brake, with its wooden pawl and wide wooden ratchet can also be seen in this photograph.
At Right: Detail of rocker. Rocker was attached to sill of frame by wood slats at one time, the slat remains are still visible.
This loom was acquired for $50.00, in 1975, at a farm auction in north central Tennessee. The auctioneer knew only that the pile of wood he was selling was a loom, and that it had been stored under the farm house porch for well over 40 years. Several handmade cane reeds came with the loom, in an assortment of dents-per-inch. |
