At Left: Wide front view of loom. Shown is basic loom frame, beater frame and treadle. At Right: Detailed view of the hole-in-peg style rocker. The rockers rest on wood blocks on either side of the loom frame. There are three pegs in the wood blocks and corresponding holes in the underside of the rockers. This loom originally came from southern Indiana, and is thought to have been built around 1850. At one time it was owned by the collection manager at Conner Prairie Museum, but was purchased in the early 1990s by one of the other museum employees. An attempt was made to restore some of the parts, but others remain missing. |
The loom was taken to Philadelphia when the new owner took a job with the National Park Service in the Philadelphia Museum complex. It was in storage until November, 2004. At that time the owner expressed interest in seeing it placed in an appropriate setting, so it was moved to the Home Textile Tool Museum, founded by William Ralph. |
