ROCKER BEATER LOOM #50: THE BEAN FAMILY LOOM

Loom in working order at the Historic Netherland Inn, Kingsport, Tennessee

This loom was donated to the Historic Netherland Inn by A.W. Johnson of Kingsport, TN, in the early 1970s. Museum records state that he had aquired the loom from descendants of the Bean family, and that it had been stored in an old log house about 15 miles northwest of Rogersville.

The Bean family was known to be a very old family in Hawkins County, TN, and the loom was said to have been handed down many generations. It is thought to have been build in the late 1700s or early 1800s.

The Netherland Inn is the Nation's only registered historic site which was both a stage coach stop and a boatyard.
