Several years ago these loom photographs were emailed to Janet Meany, founder of the Historic Looms of America organization, by a correspondent who stated it had been found it in an old barn and was curious to learn what information could be gleaned from its appearance -- as to age, area of origin, and aproximate worth. Janet forwarded the request and photos on to me, as the loom is obviously of the rocker beater style. I responded, referred him to the website, requested a mailing address and said I'd send additional information, and expressed interest in learning particulars about where the loom had been found. Unfortunately, I have received no further response. From the room decor and several things about the email, including the fact that 'oldtxcowboy' was a prominent part of the address, one might conjecture that the loom is located either in southwestern Texas, or across the border in New Mexico -- which would be a less common, but not unheard of, area in which to find this style of loom (see loom location map). |
