PINNED BEATER LOOM #2: THE FANCYGAP LOOM

Loom is in a private residence in Floyd,Virginia

I recieved pictures of this loom, after The Floyd Press ran an article about my research.

The owner realized it was not the style mentioned in the article but, since it was an old standing beater loom from Floyd County, she thought I might be interested in the pictures. She was correct.

The beater is pinned to the lower siderail of the loom like the "little rocking loom," but the shedding support system is quite different. Instead of being rear-loom, and cantilevered, it consists of diagonal wooden slats that fit through rectangular slots in the siderails and rest on the base of the loom, braced against the rear posts.

This loom was purchased at an antique shop in Fancy Gap, Virginia, during the mid-1990s. The current owner's husband stopped by the shop to get her a shuttle, as a gift, but came home with a loom as well.

The shop proprietor reported the loom had originally been removed from an old log cabin in Floyd County, Virginia, as the cabin was being torn down to make way for the building of the Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway. Nothing is known about former owners, or the age of the loom.
