Wide view of front right side. Originally built as a three-shaft loom, it appears to have most recently been used as two-shaft loom with heddlehorses. |
This collection originated with a family living in the Bristol VA/TN area and consists of two looms (looms #46 and #47), several cane reeds, a jig for tying heddles, a raddle, 2 handmade strechers, a bobbin rack, and a walking spinning wheel. At the death of the last family member living in the Bristol area, the collection went to an elderly family member who had relocated to the Eastern Shores area of Virginia. She was a non- weaver and had no use for the collection, so entrusted it to an active weaver, who later on passed it to a fellow weaving guild member who collected antique looms. |
The rockers are kept in place on loom base by the unusual "dagger and special platform" method, a method utilized on only one additional loom in this study, Loom #16. |
